Surrey County Council maintains an up-to-date list of all road works and associated closures.
Report a pothole
Potholes are a major issue in the village and their repair is the responsibility of Surrey County Council – through Surrey Highways. Whilst the Parish Council’s Road Safety and Maintenance Task Group regularly meets Surrey Highways and raises the issue of potholes, residents can help by reporting them directly to the County Council. There is an online portal for reporting them: https://www.surreycc.gov.uk/do-it-online/report-it-online
This portal can also be used for reporting issues with trees and vegetation, street lights and sign lighting, and pavements.
Community Speed Watch
Many residents have identified speeding in our village as an issue and in collaboration with Surrey Police a local Speed Watch group was established in 2006. This is not an enforcement check but vehicle details are passed to and recorded by Surrey Police who in turn write to registered keepers asking them to encourage those who use the vehicles to keep to the speed limits. Sites where drivers regularly offend are targeted by police enforcement activity.
Surrey Police have advised that in those villages where there is an active Speed Watch group there has been a significant reduction in the number of drivers exceeding the speed limits with a corresponding increase in the safety of cyclists and pedestrians - particularly schoolchildren who regularly use the pavements at peak times.
To keep the Speed Watch group going in our village, more volunteers are needed. The duties are not onerous or time consuming - one or two hours a week is sufficient - and training is “on the job” by existing volunteers.
